Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is one of the fastest ways to scale and grow your business. However if you don’t know what you’re doing it’s also the fastest way is to drain your bank account. If you’re running a business online or a brick-and-mortar you’re going want to get into Pay Per Click advertising for three reasons. It provides reliable, consistent and scalable traffic to get as many leads and sales as you want.
Reliable traffic is a must. There’s free ways like SEO, blogging, or social media marketing but if Google decides to change their algorithm, which they do all the time then your traffic runs the risk of being cut off all together.
Two it’s consistent. You can set a daily budget and get as much traffic as you want.
And three it’s scalable. If you want to take your business to the next level you can do that with PPC marketing.
Most people don’t get in the Pay Per Click advertising game simply because they got burned before and probably lost a lot of money. In fact the first the campaign I did I lost $1000 within a few minutes because I made these mistakes. I want to lay them out for you so you don’t make the same mistakes and you can dive into the Pay Per Click advertising and start generating more leads, scale your business, and take your business to the next level.
You Don’t Know Your Numbers
It blows my mind when I ask my clients what their per person average cost is and they have no clue. If you don’t know how much a new sale or member is worth to your business you can lose a ton of money with PPC marketing. Here’s a quick example using some of my personal numbers. I have a front end product I sell for $100. My sales page converts at around 3%. Meaning I need about 33 leads to make a sale. So I can spend up to $3 per lead and still break even. Because I have higher ticket up sales on the backend there’s more than enough room to scale my business. Figure out your numbers and that will give you a good bench mark of what you can spend per lead without breaking the bank!
Going Too Big Too Fast
You want to test small. Set a small daily budget to find out what works and then make tweaks and then scale up when you have a proven plan. I see people all the time wanting to go balls to the wall. I commend them for taking massive action but when it comes to paid advertising make sure you test small find what works then go big!
Sending Traffic To Your Home Page
Disaster! Send all your traffic to a landing page where you give them an irresistible lead magnet and tons of value in exchange for their email address. Look life gets in the way and the odds of them buying right here right now is very small. Imagine they click on your ad, land on your home page and their kids start screaming, or their boss walks by and they quickly exit all their browsers before they get caught… again! What happens. They are off your site and have already forgot about you. Make sure you collect at least their email so you can follow up with them later and build your marketing list.
Not Split Testing
If you’re not split testing you’re not a marketer. Always split test different headlines, ad copy, calls to action and landing pages. This will let you get more leads and sales without spending any more money! Here’s a good resource to create compelling ads.
Targeting Too Broad Keywords
If you’re trying to target broad keywords you’re going up against a lot of competition that will drive up the cost per click on your ads. This is the fun part. Get into the shoes of your perfect customer and think about the things they like. What do they read? What shows do they watch? What gurus do they follow? The more you can narrow your keyword the less competition and the lower the cost per click will be.
Just by avoiding these common mistakes is going to save you thousands of dollars. Go and place your first ad today and start to scale your business to the next level.
