Facebook is a unique social network when it comes to customizing and optimizing for your business. There is absolutely no other network that gives you so many options for branding your Business’s Profile. Many of the features you may not even know exist.
But, in order to maximize your results on Facebook, your business needs to be taking full advantage of these custom features, so lets look at them and why they help your business on Facebook.
The Cover Image isn’t really unique to Facebook, in fact many of the most popular networks, including Twitter and Google+, give businesses the option to upload a custom Cover Image. However, this is an import aspect of your Facebook Page, in fact it is the largest piece of branding real estate provided by Facebook.
Your Cover Image should tell your brands story and provide a glimpse of the lifestyle your products or services can provide. We tend to design these images to be simple to follow, in fact the user should clearly understand the message after only looking at the image for a few seconds. A few seconds is all the time you’re likely to have to grab the attention of the user before they decide to ‘Like’ or page or not.
If you only take advantage of one design aspect of Facebook, the Cover Image would definitely be it.
Similar to the Cover Image, having an About Section on your Facebook Page isn’t unique to the network, however the detail you can input is. Twitter and Pinterest limit your About Section to only a few hundred characters, but Facebook not only doesn’t limit your character count, they also provide several different information fields for you to complete.
About Section Tip: Add your website URL to your About Section, for many business categories this info section will appear directly on your Timeline, making it easy for any user viewing your Timeline to visit your website.
When filling out your Business’ About Section on Facebook, be sure to complete as many input fields as possible. Having this information inputted will help increase your likelihood of showing up in Facebook search results. Be careful not to provide too much information in one single category, Facebook users are not likely to spend the time reading it. Instead, only provide the information you need and then link back to your website to give the users access to additional information they may seek. This not only makes it quick and easy to read your About Section, it will also increase traffic to your website.
This feature is where Facebook really stands out from the social media crowd. Facebook Pages are allowed to setup custom tabs (also known as apps). These tabs can be designed to be just about anything, however we recommend to showcase your products, services and special offers. The best way to describe a custom tab on Facebook is comparing it to a Landing Page that is built into your Facebook Page.
When designing your custom tab be sure to keep in mind that most of the users that are going to view it are new to your business. Be sure to include information that will answer some of their initial questions and showcase the main reasons why they should care about your brand. Provide lots of direct links back to your website.
Custom Tabs are a must have feature for any business that is serious about building a Facebook strategy. They provide a unique way to showcase your brand, invite users to your website and really standout among all of the other Pages that have not taken the time to develop a custom tab.
Take your custom tab one step further by setting it up as a Welcome/Reveal Tab.
By taking advantage of the customization options Facebook provides businesses you can take your Business Page from ordinary, to a well branded sales tool. Even if you’ve already established a Business Page on Facebook, it’s not too late to add your branding and start getting even more out of the network.
