Money, money, money, everyone wants more money and it doesn’t matter how much you make. And often times, money appears to be the driving force for many business owners. They believe they can make more with their own business than working for someone else. But, the truth is, wanting more money isn’t enough of a reason for business owners.
Why is this? Because as a business owner you’re going to go through struggles and challenges. These challenges will test you and make you want to give up. As a business owner, you’re going to go through these challenges throughout your entire career, no matter how big or successful your business is. If you don’t have a big enough WHY, you may give in and call it quits.
The truth is, everyone wants more money, and you don’t see everyone taking consistent action to get it. This would tell us that money isn’t a deep enough reason to continue when the times get hard.
The desire for more money is about as common as the air we breath, it doesn’t matter how much you have, you seem to always want more. This is the culture that we live in. And wanting more money isn’t bad, the more money you have the more you can enjoy your life AND the more you can help others. But unfortunately wanting more money is not a true motivating factor for most.
More importantly you need to ask yourself WHY you want more money. What does more money do for you? Does it allow you to buy the dream vacations, cars and houses you’ve always wanted? Is there someone special you want to treat or give too? Do you just want to provide a better lifestyle to your family? The thing about money is that it’s just a tool that allows you to live in a certain manner.
No two people or families will use money the same, so in order to start to create a ‘Why’ that is deep enough to continue to fight for your business during the down times and challenges you must be able to determine what more money really means for you (your WHY). Get as detailed as possible and include all areas of your life. What will you buy, where will you live, what organizations will you give too, how will you help people and so on. This detailed vision of what a successful business does for your life will be what you focus on when times get hard.
The more detailed you get, the stronger of a driving force it will become. Create this Why and focus on it each day, it will become a tool to help you during the challenges and get you through the downs. Creating this Why just may be the difference between success and failure.
