Yes, your Facebook Business Page’s Reach is down. But does that mean it’s time to flea the network? Almost on a daily basis we hear how Facebook is the next Myspace. And, almost every time we explain why we couldn’t disagree more.
We share facts like, Myspace NEVER had anywhere close the number of users Facebook does (1.15 BILLION active monthly users) and that Myspace was never integrated so much into our daily lives as Facebook. But if you’re still not convinced, here are 6 more reasons why Facebook still makes sense for most businesses and why we continue to focus our efforts and many of our clients efforts around Facebook.
- The Audience Is There:
As mentioned above, Facebook currently has 1.15 billion monthly active users, with nearly 60% of these users logging into their accounts daily. It doesn’t matter who your target market is, they are on Facebook. (No, not EVERYONE you’re trying to reach is going to be on the network, but show me an advertising channel that guarantees you’ll reach everyone?)
- Organic Reach Is Still Free:
Whether or not your reach is down doesn’t matter, the fact is that even if you’re able to reach 1 user through your Facebook Page organically, you’re reaching your target audience without paying anything. What other form of marketing are you able to craft a unique message and publish publicly for free, an unlimited number of times each and every day?
- Your Customers Still Expect You To Be On Facebook:
Right now we hear more businesses upset about Facebook’s changes than anyone else, therefore just because your business may choose to avoid the network doesn’t mean your customers are. They will continue to use Facebook to learn about brands, products and services, as well as customer service. Will your business be available to answer their questions?
- There Is AN SEO Benefit:
Now let me start by saying that Social Brothers is NOT an SEO expert, however this would not be a complete list without the fact that major search engines, such as Google, are now using social media to help increase website rankings. By being active on Facebook and building a community you can also see an increase in your search engine rankings.
- Facebook Ads Is Affordable:
With statements like, “You have to pay to play” being thrown around in regards to Facebook on a regular basis we had to mention that Facebook ads are extremely affordable. We have not found another channel that you can spend $25 and be extremely targeted and reach literally 1000′s. Just about any business, small, medium or large should be able to afford $25 a month to increase their reach by 1000′s, they could not achieve this with any other medium. Not to mention, even if you use Facebook ads to increase reach, you STILL get the organic reach on top of it.
- Since When Was Marketing Free?
This final reason to continue your Facebook efforts was almost the entire article, but because there are so many reasons to continue to use Facebook, we decided to include some of them here as well. Until social media was introduced to businesses, there were virtually no forms of marketing that were free; print ads, newspapers, radio, TV commercials, and so on all cost money. These forms of marketing are also one sided. Facebook gives your business an opportunity to engage and build real relationships with your customers, so why should this form of marketing be free? The old age saying, “you must spend money to make money” is just as true today as it was 20 years ago before the internet age. Why shouldn’t you have to pay for a service that generates and helps support your business? Facebook as real expenses towards giving you this platform and have done an exceptional job growing their customer base (both consumers and businesses) and giving your business direct access to them. So why shouldn’t they be able to make a profit from it? The truth is, most FREE marketing options aren’t going to bring your business results, this is true with Facebook as it is with just about any other form of marketing. Of course there are exceptions, but even 2 years ago when Facebook Page Reach was higher, businesses that invested in Facebook ads always saw higher and better results.
Facebook has certainly upset many businesses, but we have found that the ones that really built a solid Facebook strategy, already included Facebook ads into their plan. The recent changes have reduced their reach some, but they continue to attract new Fans, engage with them on a daily basis and turn them into customers.
Facebook is a level playing field, just like any other form of marketing, however with Facebook you still have the choice to play the game without any investment. Your results may not be the same as a brand investing in Facebook ads, but without more skin in the game, why would you expect them to be?
We’re sure you have an opinion and we’d love to hear it. In the comments field share your thoughts on the topic, are you thinking of leaving Facebook? Have you tired Facebook Ads? Are we wrong, is Facebook only for the big brands nowadays?
