Are you a restaurant owner or general manager? Then this is a must read for you…
As you have probably noticed everyone is spending time on their phones, even while they are ordering or eating a meal at your establishment. With the ever growing market of smartphone users, having a mobile strategy is becoming even more of a necessity for your marketing plan.
People are searching from their phones on a regular basis for everything before they venture out. This means that if your restaurant doesn’t have a mobile strategy, it could be missing out on potential business.
What is a mobile strategy? you are probably asking yourself. A mobile strategy can consists of a Mobile Friendly Website and/or a Mobile App.
Mobile Website vs Mobile App
Think of it this way, mobile website is like having a desktop website where vistors can land get there info and make a purchasing decision. This sounds great, however, if they don’t they don’t take action right there, they might forget about you. This means when they are ready to make the purchase they will do another search and may or may not find you.
A mobile app is like having a Facebook Fan Page or other social media platform that captures that person as a Fan or Follower, so that you can continue to update them and educate them. This keeps you at top of mind, thus when they are ready to purchase they know where they are going, your restaurant.
A Mobile Friendly Website allows users to find the information they want to know about your restaurant easily without the frustration of scrolling through the content and small size of your desktop site on a mobile device. When your website is optimized for mobile it looks clean, provides the relevant information, shows locations with push to contact and push directions and can even show the menu and have an online ordering option. Having this at the finger tips will keep people on your mobile site rather than moving on to one that is mobile friendly, ultimately increasing your bottom line.
A Mobile App provides a lot of the same functionality as a mobile website with the added bonuses of it always being on your customers mobile device, not to mention your able to access native applications of the mobile device such as the camera, gps for directions, one-touch calling, “PUSH” notifications (like a text message) for sharing specials or events, plus many more.
A Few Best Practices for Restaurants and Mobile
About: Give a brief overview on your history and what makes your restaurant different. Remember to keep it brief, people don’t want to be reading novels on their phone when they are searching by mobile for a place to eat.
Menu(s): This is a must! How would you expect someone to choose if they want to eat at your restaurant if you don’t at very least have descriptions and pictures of some of your menu.
One-Touch Calling: be sure to have your phone number clickable on the mobile for one-touch calling for easy contact
One-Touch Directions: just like having easy access to contact you, you want people to easily be able to get directions to your location(s)
GPS Location: (App Only) with access to the GPS on most phones you are able to show a map of your location(s) and directions
Ordering Functionality: (Highly Recommended) many times people are looking for take-out or delivery and having the ability to order from your mobile website or mobile app can really boost sales, with people’s busy lives this can save them time and increase your bottom line.
Reservation Functionality: (Highly Recommended) if you offer reservations for your restaurant whether it be by phone or a service provider, make sure it becomes a part of your mobile strategy
Loyalty Program: are you already using a loyalty program (punch card)? build it straight into your mobile app, its easy for you and its easy for your customers because they don’t have worry about carrying something else when its on something they have with them 24/7
Social Networking: be sure to connect to your social networks and allow people to share your mobile site or mobile on their profiles
