How can understanding this number help you as an Admin of the Fan Page?
This number is an important number that as a page admin you will want to watch, track and understand. In simple terms this number gives you an idea of how many users you are actually communicating with on a weekly basis. The higher the number, the higher number of people that are interacting on your page. As a direct result, the higher the number, the more opportunity your page has to be seen by new users.
As of right now there is not a lot of information on what a “good” People talking about this number should be. However, from our observation the average Fan Page likely will not see a People talking about this number that reaches above 10% of the total Fans. Of course, the more targeted your Fan base is, the more value you share within your status updates and the more time, energy and thought you spend on your page the more likely you are to grab the attention of your Fans, ultimately increasing this number.
What this new public insight does is make it public information how well the page is performing. Before many users would simply look at the number of Fans a page had to determine it’s importance, that is no longer a valid judgement. (Although, if you’ve followed us at all before you will know that the number of Fans your page has is not nearly as important as the quality of Fans your page has.)
A page that has 4,000 Fans with 2 People talking about this is clearly doing a poor job of grabbing the attention of their audience and isn’t likely providing any value in their Status Updates. On the other hand a page that has 150 Fans with 80 People talking about this is doing a much better job of grabbing their Fans attention and getting them to interact with the page. This means that they have an opportunity to build a relationship with their Fans and gain their trust, which will be needed to turn those Fans into paying customers for your business.
The People talking about this number puts all the cards on the table, users are able to determine how many other users are interacting with the page. As the users become more and more familiar with this number they will likely start to judge what pages and brands to follow based on this number.
