For the proposes of this article we are going to make the assumption that you have already created a marketing plan, have a clear business brand and understand who your target market is. This article is going to focus on the importance of creativity when creating your marketing pieces. Creativity is one of, if not the most important aspect of creating a great marketing piece. Many marketing professionals will go as far as saying that you can judge how creative your marketing was by how effective it was. Meaning if your marketing created a ton of excitement about your business and resulted in increased profits, your marketing was creative. If your marketing did not create any excitement and resulted in no extra profits your marketing was not creative enough. So how do you make sure you’re being creative with your marketing?
First off, it’s important to fully understand your target market. By understanding and knowing your target market you are going to be able to better reach them and get their attention. Make sure that every marketing piece you create is tailored towards your target market. The next thing you should do is look at the current trends, or as I like to say, “What’s hot and what’s not?” Right now a big trend in the United States is purchasing products in the United States, especially for older generations that grew up before everything was outsourced. Consider placing a “Made In USA” stamp on your products (only if they are truly made in the US), or find another creative approach to incorporate this into your marketing. Don’t be afraid to think out side of the box with your marketing, if it’s different and memorable it’ll create excitement. This however is NOT an invitation to be rude, crude or out of character to your target market. It is highly recommended to have your new marketing ideas previewed by your current clients and friends before making them public and as stressed before make sure your marketing fits your target market. There are hundreds of ways to be creative with your marketing, combine popular trends that have not been combined yet, create a funny/inspirational short video, come up with a memorable mascot, whatever you do, be different and tailor to your target market.
Creativity & Social Media
As Social Media continues to grow in popularity the need for creativity will reach new levels. Businesses that are doing the same thing as everyone else are going to be left in the dust. A constant creative approach is not only recommended but necessary if your Social Media efforts are going to pay off. Some areas that you can be creative with and standout in, is by creating custom tabs that showcase your business and build brand awareness. You will also want to take advantage of the Photo Banner section that allows you to showcase your services or beliefs. However, this is just the beginning of being creative with your Social Media, having a professionally setup and looking profile will not be enough to gain the trust of new clients. You will need to be creative in every status update, comment response and action you do on your networks. This could include running special contests that get your following base involved, creating videos (funny or serious) and mainly providing something that keeps Fans coming back. Boring status updates are no longer going to be enough to gain interaction and build trust with Fans. Keep your network creative and make people remember your style on the network. Here’s the challenge, you have to be creative while still staying true to your business brand and message.
